The
Southern Mansion - Built in 1863, located at 720 Washington Street,
Cape May. Once belonged to a wealthy Philadelphian "Capt" George Allen. |
 | The
Doctor's Inn - Built in 1854, located Cape May Court House. The
home was built on land which in 1690 was granted to a colonial physician by
the King of England. A portion of the 1000 acre land was transferred by
the Dr. to Shamgar Hand. It wasn't until almost 2 centuries later when
Danielia Hand who married Dr. John Wiley decide to build their home here.
A few years after the house was built, Dr. Wiley served for the Union Army in
the Civil War. The house was once a "Safe House" used along the route of
the "Underground Railroad". Restored in the early 1990's, it is now a
European-style country Inn & fine dining restaurant. |
 | The Hoffman House - located in Cape May on what is
now Bayshore Rd. August 17, 1871, 35 year old Jonathan Hoffman was shot
in the side by a band of thieves who were ransacking the Hoffman home after he
& his wife returned from visiting a neighboring Parsons Family. He was
described as a hard-working, religious man. Note: Jonathan Hoffman Rd.
is named after him. An article of this tragedy was published in the
Cape May Ocean Wave newspaper. |
 | John F. Craig House
- Built just after the Civil War and purchased in 1891 for $7,500.00 by
John F. Craig. Located at 609 Columbia Ave., Cape May. In 1993 now
a restored B&B. |
 | Peter Shield's Inn - Completed in 1907, 20 years
after the first fire that destroyed much of downtown Cape May, located at 1301
Beach Drive, Cape May. The mansion was built for Peter Shield (the head
of Cape May Real Estate Co.). It is said "the family packed up and left
here somewhere around 1912". |
