Press of Atlantic City - Newspaper Tuesday, May 20, 2003 LEVY, HARRY, 81, of Carlsbad, California, formerly of Margate, passed away on May 17, 2003. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1921, he enlisted in the Navy shortly after high school and saw action in the Pacific theater during World War II as an aircraft radio operator. After the war he lived in South Jersey where he owned several nightclubs. He helped introduce rock-and-roll to a wider audience and is most noted for having given Chubby Checker his career start at the Rainbow Club in Wildwood. His nightclubs also helped promote the careers of numerous other entertainers such as Count Basie and Bo Diddley. After leaving the nightclub business, Harry became involved in the retail liquor business and his clients included some of the casinos in Atlantic City. He and his wife retired to Southern California two years ago to be with their children. he is survived by his wife Anne and his six children: Jennifer Levy of Vista, California; Sharna Skjei of Carlsbad, California; Abraham Levy of Oceanside, California; Leslie Amodei of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Pauline Levy of Wildwood and Ben Levy of Miami, Florida. He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
